Choosing an Attorney

Choosing the right attorney or law firm may be the most important decision you make regarding your claim.  Unfortunately, it is a decision people often make with very little information or forethought.

Whether you choose our law firm, or choose someone else, here are some tips for making an "informed" decision about hiring a lawyer.

Choose a Specialist . . .

Look for an attorney who specializes in your type of claim.  We specialize in personal injury law, which means we devote the majority of our practice to this area.  By specializing, we feel we are able to offer clients the value of our experience in the matters that are most important to them.

Look for Board Certification . . .

Board Certification requires an attorney to pass rigorous testing of knowledge, experience and character.  Only a small percentage of attorneys are board certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.  W. McFarland Bagby is Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law, and has been since 1978.

Check for Reputation . . .

The Bagby Law Firm, P.C. maintains an "AV" rating in the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory.  This rating is computed from confidential opinions of bar members and the judiciary in this legal community.  The "AV" rating indicates: "very high to preeminent legal ability and very high ethical standards."

Be Cautious about Advertising . . .

Some firms focus heavily on advertising and pride themselves for doing a "volume business."  Unfortunately, their clients rarely get the time and attention they deserve.  At the Bagby Law Firm, P.C., most of our clients are referred to us from former clients as well as other attorneys.  We are selective in the cases we take, so that each client will receive the time and attention they deserve.

Visit more than one Attorney . . .

Every lawyer should be willing to offer a free consultation and should be completely understanding of prospective clients who want to consult with other attorneys before making a final choice.  We encourage potential clients to visit other attorneys so they will feel good about their decision once it's made.  To visit with one of our attorneys, free of charge, call us at 817-461-5741
